March 2024 Update: Lena Gulch
Parks and Recreation continues to participate in plans for the stormwater management project associated with Lena Gulch.
The City applied for federal funding grants for this project in late Summer 2023 for work on Lena Gulch east of Heritage Road and has not yet received feedback on that application. Stream Landscape Architecture remains involved, supporting early planning for the development of a future park.
Securing funding and finalizing the design for Lena Gulch remains the primary task. Consideration for future park development remains a priority in decision-making for the stormwater management project. The park design process will be developed when more information is available about the stormwater project, allowing sufficient direction to proceed.

Update: Bachman Property Park Development
Parks and Recreation has engaged with Stream Landscape Architecture to assist with early planning for the development of a future park on the Bachman Property.
Park planning requires careful coordination with the stormwater management project associated with Lena Gulch. Work to date has included site analysis, including the significance of archaeological findings on the property.
Currently, securing funding and finalizing the design for Lena Gulch is the primary task. Additional information is anticipated early in 2024, and the next steps in the park design process will be developed subsequent to the Lena Gulch decisions. Decisions are being made with consideration for assuring future high-value park development opportunities.

The City of Golden has recently acquired funding to redevelop West Colfax Avenue from Violet Street to I-70 (near Gateway Village). In the future this portion of West Colfax Avnue shall function as a complete street, or one that accommodates all forms of mobility: cars, bikes, pedestrians, and buses. Please take a moment to answer this brief survey so we can create a transportation experience that best suits the neighborhood and greater Golden community. Potential considerations should also be extended to the land uses that surround the Colfax corridor.

Built in the 1950’s as an amusement park, the Heritage Square property has remained untouched since its recent closure. The majority of the former amusement park's attractions and buildings have been removed, and the current owners of the property are preparing to sell the property to Jefferson County Open Space. Although Jefferson County Open Space intends to preserve some portions of the property as open lands, a large portion of the property may be sold for development. Before this occurs, Jefferson County Open Space wants to work with the community of Golden to determine the best use for this property in the future. In other words, what land uses are most important? Jefferson County Open Space will use this feedback when and if the property develops. Please take a moment to fill out the short survey contained below.

The South Golden Neighborhoods Plan was most recently published in 2012. At the time of its release, the South Golden Neighborhoods area was generally seen as stable from a development perspective. Most of the properties were built out and seen as thriving. In total, the plan identified three major areas of change that at the time of this writing are mostly built out themselves. The focus of the 2020 update to the South Golden Neighborhoods Plan will be the West Colfax corridor and it's adjacent properties, but we will definitely analyze the remaining neighborhood to determine if there are improvements that are needed elsewhere. Help us figure out what we're missing by filling out the survey below.
