Consultation has concluded

Five different LED bulbs located along 10th Street; two examples of each marked A, B, C, D or E.

Thank you everyone who participated in the survey!

The LED streetlight survey results had streetlight “D” as the clear favorite (around 40% preferred it over the other 4 bulbs). For the lighting geeks out there, bulb “D” is a Lumec Road Focus Reduced Glare LED with a color temperature of 2700K.

With the result of the survey in hand, we went to Council on October 11 and they approved a project to replace all of the cobra head, mast arm lights with the LED bulb selected in the survey. Work on the project will start before the end of the year.

The City of Golden Public Works Department is looking to you to help pick your favorite bulb as we level up all our city streetlights to LED bulbs. We launched a pilot study in August that will last through the end of September with lights located along 10th Street before it turns into 44th Avenue—the stretch of road near the Clear Creek Parking Lot and Coors. Each light pole is labeled with a letter A through E for easy identification, and marked on a corresponding map.

Why Upgrade to LED Bulbs?

Golden has traditionally used high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights, which tend to have an amber hue. LEDs can vary in color temperature, typically from warm white to cool/bluish white. LED bulbs offer many benefits—they save energy, they save money, and they help improve visibility.

Help us Choose!

The City of Golden has carefully selected several LED streetlights for consideration in this study. The selected LEDs will mimic the warm glow of HPS lights more closely while retaining the visibility benefits of LED streetlights. We urge everyone to see the lights for themselves and help us select the best bulb for our city. Drive, walk, or bike along 10th Street on an evening in August or September, check out the new LED lights, note your preferences, then take our survey below.
