Redefining Historic Preservation in Golden

The City of Golden is embarking on a Historic Preservation Policy & Engagement Study to help the community define a vision and goals around the preservation of historic resources in our city. The outcome of the Study will identify the tools needed to accomplish those intended outcomes and outline how those changes could be made to City policies, ordinances and guiding documents.

The community is invited and encouraged to join us for two open houses, and other engagement opportunities as the study progresses.

Steering Committee Members

Patty Evans, Jen Rutter, Cynthia Berg, Peter Ewers, Richard Gardner, Meg Van Ness, Kevin Yoshida

Steering Committee Responsibilities

  1. Reviewing public engagement input regarding the Historic Preservation Policy & Engagement Study.
  2. Reviewing technical tools that could be used to implement certain historic preservation policies.
  3. Offering insight on historic preservation policies that would achieve the City’s historic preservation vision and goals.
  4. Providing input on the policy options and alternatives for historic preservation in Golden.
  5. Providing a recommendation for policy options and alternatives to move forward for additional consideration by the Historic Preservation Board and City Council.

Meeting Times


Open Houses

  • PAST: Monday, September 23 | 4 to 6:30 p.m.: Open house at the Golden Community Center (1470 10th St., Golden) to discuss policy alternatives, options, and opportunities. We will have a welcome and brief introduction at 4:15pm and again at 5:30pm.
  • PAST: Monday, July 22 | 4 to 6:30 p.m.: The first open house for the City’s Historic Preservation Policy & Engagement Study was held on July 22, 2024, from 4 to 6:30 pm at the Golden Community Center. City staff and the project consultant, Logan Simpson, provided information on the study, background on the City’s Historic Preservation program. and highlights from programs in other communities in the West. The open house’s main event was an activity that allowed community members to give input on what the guiding vision should be for preservation in Golden and for the city’s historic resources.
