Consultation has concluded

Starting July 30, Census workers will be out in the community knocking on doors to collect responses from households that have not yet responded. Please look for the badge and cooperate with them. You can also respond online at www.2020census.gov or by phone at 1-844-330-2020.

Check out the 2020 Census interactive response rate map . For those of you who have been checking the response map, provided at the link above, Golden is now at 73%! Not only that, but Jefferson County is battling Douglas County for the highest response rate in the state! Keep those responses coming, and let's try and get to 100%!

We are excited to announce that we are partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to support the 2020 Census. As a partner, we will be working to make sure our community is accurately represented in the upcoming decennial count.

The census counts everyone in the United States. Census results are the basis for congressional representation and help determine how more than $675 billion in federal funds is distributed each year to support vital programs in states and communities across the country. These funds shape local health care, housing, education, transportation, employment and public policy.

According to the U.S. Census Response Outreach Area Mapper (ROAM), the census block groups that include the City of Golden have a statistically low response rate. That's a problem as studies have determined that local governments will lose approximately $1,800.00 per response. Let's ensure that everyone in Golden responds to the Census so we can better fund our schools, transportation network, and medical providers.

The City of Golden is working to provide computer stations and additional resources for taking the census at key, public locations. The U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your answers and keep them strictly confidential. In fact, every employee takes an oath to protect your personal information for life.

This law protects your answers to the 2020 Census. Under Title 13, the Census Bureau cannot release any identifiable information about you, your home, or your business, even to law enforcement agencies. The law ensures that your private data is protected and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court. Violating Title 13 is a federal crime, punishable by prison time and/or a fine of up to $250,000.

As a partner of the 2020 Census, the City of Golden plans to have a laptop available at the City of Golden Community Center for citizens to be able to take the census online.The details for this resource will be made available on Friday, March 6th. Please come back for details.
In addition, the Golden Library will also provide a permanent station for the Census as well. The library will also host an event on Wednesday, April 8 from 1-5pm for the Census. This will include several laptops set up for individuals to respond to the Census. Basic information flyers as well as a staff member to answer questions will also be provided.
The event will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 1 – 5 P.M. at the Golden Library (1019 10th Street, Golden, CO 80401)

You may notice census takers in your neighborhood this year.
This is a normal part of conducting the census. Your information is such an important part of the 2020 Census, that if you haven't responded on your own, we send census takers to help make sure you are counted.
How can you verify that someone is a census worker?
If someone visits your home to collect information for the 2020 Census, check to make sure that they have a valid ID badge, with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.

Everyone living in the 50 states, District of Colombia, and five U.S. territories is required by law to respond and be counted in the 2020 census. Although, all responses are confidential.
The results of the census are used to determine how much funding local communitites recieve for key public services and how many seats the state gets in congress. State and local officials also use the census counts to draw boundaries for congressional, state legislative, and school districts.
While you are required by law to participate, the Census Bureau is also required by law to protect your answers. Your responses are used only to produce statistics. The Census Bureau does not disclose any personal information.
